Kahului

Kahului was once referred to as the “dream city” while it was still being developed in the middle part of the 20th century. The objective then was to make the place habitable and filled with comforts, which is a huge contrast to the barracks and plantation camps that dominated this sugar industry center in Hawaii. Today, Kahului has become one of the must-see places in Maui and the following are just some of the attractions that you will find there.
Places to See
Alexander and Baldwin Sugar Museum – Get all the information you need about the start and development of the sugar industry in Maui from this museum. Various exhibits are displayed here, each representing an important aspect of the industry, but the most exciting would be the interactive exhibits, complete with light and sound effects, which will delight both young and old.
Paper Airplane – This museum features the aviation history of Hawaii, but some of the exhibits here are paper plane models that came from all over the world. They can range from stamp-size planes to as large as several feet. Aviation enthusiasts will have a delightful day touring this place, which is free for everyone.
Kanaha Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary – This sanctuary is located between the airport and the downtown area of Kahului. It serves as the breeding area of some of Hawaii’s endangered species, like the white-billed Hawaiian coot and the brown koloa duck. This sanctuary also plays host to some migratory birds so expect to catch 90 species or more of birds here during your visit.
Things to Do
Helicopter Tour – The amazing things about this tour is you will get to see all the natural treasures of Kahului in one sweep through the air and you will be learning a lot too from your very knowledgeable pilot/tour guide.
